If it's stuck, tap it with a piece of wood, else try WD40 or failing that some pump pliers with newspaper between the jaws to prevent damaging the chrome plate. He was gonna hump, but The age of the taps is of concern as breaking the seal is going to be hard. You can drill the screw out and retap it but then getting the head off could cause problems if stuck tight. You could damage the sink trying. Any top tips for stopping them sticking and getting them turning again easily? They free up after you fully turn them a few times, but it's a real pain. The sticking is common, the crust you are describing not so much. Clean the faucet well by disassembling and soaking in Clean Flo. Maybe look into a forward sealing faucet to reduce it in the future. The stoptap on my mains water appears to be jammed solid and I can't turn my water off. I've tried wd40 and easing oil on the spindle to loosen it, but it's still solid. Would a heat gun on the tap assembly help? It's the type of tap which looks like a bathroom tap as opposed to a gate valve, there's no screw in the top to undo it.

The age of the taps is of concern as breaking the seal is going to be hard. You can drill the screw out and retap it but then getting the head off could cause problems if stuck tight.
